Decatur welcomes you to savor history as you visit its iconic railroad depot in historic downtown. It was built in 1905 during the era when the most famous architect in the South, Frank Pierce Milburn, was the sole architect for the Southern Railway.

Often referred to as the “Frank Lloyd Wright” of his day, most of Milburn’s railroad depots were designed in the Spanish Revival style- as was Decatur’s. Considered a national architectural treasure, Decatur’s depot is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and as such is deserving of preserving. The restored depot links historic downtown to the city’s oldest neighborhood, Old Town.
